..it was during the years
when I was doing
Positive Threads when
David Jones came into
my life...... 1994 as I
recall, at an Austin area
HIV/AIDS organization
meeting?..I had been
involved in my own ASO
for well over a year and
because my focus was
on reaching out to
women, children,
people of color and the
het/BI communities that
I decided to ask David
for his input at times,
not to mention some of
his help ? later on down
the pike David started
ASHA, an AIDS activist
newsletter for people
of color?..
.....January 2002, I went
back to Austin for my
regular lab and doctor
appointment.....during the
two weeks I stayed at
David's home, I was
asked if I would take
some photos of him with
the new digital camera he
had just bought.....
.....David and I shot 168
photos and what you see
on this page are my
favorites.....the funniest
thing that happen during
the photo shoot??? David
was trying to put on some
really serious looks since
he wanted to submit
some pics to BLACK
INCHES.....just when he
thought we had it "right" I
would say "remember
when...." to get David
smiling or
laughing......finally he told
me to shut up and we got
some damn good
photos.....and laughs!
SMILE for the BIRDY!
?.David became involved in the Austin Area HIV Planning Council, serving as a member in that organization for
several years?..during that time David was able to bring about the much needed awareness concerning people of
color within that organization ? David also was highly active in recruiting other people of color to serve and give their
input within that organization ? many long hours, meetings and sub committee meetings ? in short, a lot of hard
frustrating work!??..out of it all came a better understanding, some changes were made (but more are needed from
what I understand) and a new group for HIV Poz African Americans was started, thanks to the hard work and efforts
by David Jones?..David and I were involved in other activism at the time until I became very sick and had to take
leave ? David continued while he was ill several times and continues to this day to keep the awareness alive!
?..David was also one of Dingo?s favorite
friends and whenever David would drive his
car up to the street curb at my home in Austin,
Dingo would start whimpering at the door,
wagging that tail and that's how I knew it was
David coming?..David was the only one Dingo
did that for.....
?..David and I also had many good times socially as well?..he was
always the first one I would invite over for my BBQs (and he never
missed any of them)?.now and then we would take in some in town
riding on the back of my 82 GoldWing (he?s one of the best
passengers I had)?..over the years David and I became friends,
helping each other out when we could?.
.David enjoys good cooking, working out, chilling out at home and
he is funny, witty, charming, good looking, calm and peaceful ? AND
GREAT HUSBAND/PARTNER MATERIAL for someone out there.....
David, THANK YOU for being there?..
I wish you nothing less than the best - and thensome!?..
